Rick Becker was born in Pretoria in 1963. He matriculated in 1981 and obtained a BA Degree with Honours in Theology in 1988. He is a self-taught artist, who started painting full-time in 1989.

He draws his inspiration for the landscapes from the Karoo. "There is something about the Karoo that resonates with my soul. The vast space, crisp skies, unusual rock formations and “koppies”, coupled with the solitude of the area enable one to find rest from the hectic and often destructive way of life considered the ‘norm’. The sky is God’s canvas, and the colours you will often see during a Karoo sunset seem surreal; hue’s of oranges, pinks, greens, purples and reds combine in one sunset ignoring all art- schools rules of colour combinations."

In 1990 he was invited to participate in a joint exhibition in De Bron, Holland. He continued to paint in Holland for six months and during this time focused on abstract pieces. Upon returning to South Africa, he was involved in other art forms such as ceramics and design. His preferred medium is oils / acrylics on stretched canvas.

Rick's work can be found in the following corporate collections:

First National Bank - Landscapes

KPMG - Flowers

Volkswagen South Africa - Abstracts

He had numerous solo and joint exhibitions throughout South Africa.

He is married to Carrie, and they have two children, Roxanne and Matt.

How to measure

Wrap a string or thin strip op paper around the thickest part of the finger you want to war the ring on. Mark where the paper or string meets and measure the distance in millimetres – this is your circumference. Divide the measurement by 3.14 for your universal ring size.
